The Happy Room

There are a lot of people doing what they need or have to do to get by in this world. They often sacrifice who they are in order to keep the peace, to meet the status quo, to maintain a balance no matter how precarious that may be in unhealthy emotional, intellectual, spiritual, or even physical realms. The lamentations of their despair become a litany of unresolved, unrecognized, and unheeded personal warnings. They have compromised more than they should have when faced with difficulties that, at the time, seemed insurmountable.

It may seem like one just can’t catch a break. Everything such as family issues, occupational hazards like co-workers or bosses, neighbors that fight at 2AM, they all seem to pile up around the edges of our minds, creep in until they become so daunting that curling up in a ball is the only way to feel protected. But as adults, we know that’s not responsible towards fulfilling our own needs, wants, desires, or beliefs.

What is required to stabilize the influx of either permitted or illicit chaos in our lives?

Your Happy Room.

Imagine standing in the middle of a room. It can be any color with as many or as few of windows as you desire. There is a shifting floor and an infinite ceiling. Each wall of this room has shelves from the floor on up to as high as you can reach and beyond. Each wall represents different aspects of our lives, each shelf dictates the significance we place on those aspects. On the many shelves are boxes made of all types of materials such as wood, cardboard, concrete, tissue paper, etc.

The “YOU” standing in the middle of that room is your Spirit. The bottom line of you with every bit of your potential just waiting to be discovered. This is your space and your room and your spirit is the conductor of everything that happens in this room.

The floor is your emotional self. Because we have the human experience and emotions can get messy, our spirits can either expand rising upwards when we feel most secure in ourselves, or the feeling of drowning may occur when the emotions become overwhelming.

The wall on your left is filled with the musts.  On the wall in front of you is the wall of relationships. Sometimes a crisis  can rise up from your emotional floor and engulf  tour room with anger, jealousy, fears,  joy, happiness, compassion, and kindness.

On the wall to your right is the temporary stuff.  Emotions can swallow those up but can also dissipate them depending on how you view a temporary situation. HINT: Most of the mundane issues we have are on this wall. Everyday tweaks in our well laid plans  can either hinder us or progress us through a day.

On the wall behind the spirit self is your past. Everything you’ve ever experienced, dealt with, or ignored is there. It’s behind you for a reason. Although they do not go away, they’re the fine tuning of your current understanding of how things work. Nobody has an empty wall there and everybody’s secret boxes have different things in them. Some are treasured, some are hated, but nobody is without history. The decisions you made in the past were made with the best knowledge you had at the time. The errors that were made brought you to the place where you are now. They made your human experience real. They don’t define you, they guided you.

Look up. In this room, the ceiling you can’t see is your future self, your goals, your ambitions, your true direction of embracing the potential of your spirit self. In order to reach those dreamy places, look at your walls. Transcend.

Everything you need to achieve complete fulfillment right now is in this room. It’s up to you in deciding how you wish to arrange the boxes in order to meet your goals. The ultimate goal of this Happy Room is to lift your spirit as high as you can using the tools you have at hand.

If you discover that one of your secret boxes doesn’t fit at all, eliminate it. It’s okay to keep the good parts just like you’d do if you were sorting through storage.

Build your own Happy Room with a deeply aware eye and things will begin to just fall into place. Follow your strongest spiritually instinct to help guide you. Trust that you know yourself or, at the very least, are learning about yourself enough to believe that your life and your happiness are worth it.
